Mind Games for Better Health
How to outsmart your metabolism

How can a person trim down when those weight-watcher programs don't work? My suggestion is just eat healthy foods. Forget the expensive supplements and the fad diets. There is one other thing - you'll need to play a few mind games with your metabolism, tell it who's boss. Sounds crazy, I know, but it seems to do the trick.

The main problem to contend with is the storage of fat. Unlike some substances surplus to requirement, fats are saved for later - you know where. This happens automatically, unquestioningly, mindlessly. So, if this stored fat is never going to be burned by regular physical exercise, there are two choices: let it build up, or do something to stop more being deposited. Standard weight-loss diets try to do this, but the problem comes when the food intake changes and the metabolism is suddenly deprived of its normal load of fats, sugars and carbohydrates. It then complains bitterly by instigating uncomfortable feelings, withdrawal symptoms actually, until the dieter caves in and goes on a binge to give it exactly what it thinks it needs.

In truth, you'll be the one doing the thinking; out-thinking, in effect; and here's where the mind games come in. The full article explains the idea, how to begin the deception and continue with it long enough to make a difference. After a couple of false starts - they are also part of the program - you'll be able to trim down the fat without feeling as if your throat's been cut. In fact, I'd be surprised if you don't find it so enjoyable and worthwhile that you'll soon be off buying new clothes because the old stuff is too big. Does that tempt you, or what?
