Moonberry Pie is a collection of stories for carers to tell young children; but there are no pictures. Each slice of Moonberry Pie is another story

In the days before printing, story-tellers had to delight listeners with their own words; sometimes by relating actual past events, or by making up fictional tales of princes and paupers. Those who have no children, but just like a good story are welcome too.

THE CHRISTMAS BOX
Her friends at school have teased Alyssa for believing in Santa Claus, and she is convinced he is just an ordinary man in the red suit; until he gives her a present that proves magic can still happen.

THE LONELY LITTLE TABLE
The little table used to be happy with the children and pets around him; but then the family move house and things suddenly change for the worse. It takes an accident to give him a new lease on life.

THE GROWING-UP OF A SEED NAMED BRUCE
Seeds don't know much. In fact, one little seed doesn't even know his own name; not until he is forced from the gum-nut in which he was born and meets Matilda. What happens to them next teaches them both what growing-up is all about.

THE GREAT EGG MYSTERY
Whisky and Topsy are great friends. They are also chickens who, not being very bright, wonder why they bother laying eggs when humans just take them away. Prudence, the grumpy hen, shows them what egg-laying is really for.

THE VERY BEST OF TRICKS AND TREATS
The new people who have moved in don't like garden gnomes and plan taking them to the tip. Fortunately, Halloween is a magical time for gnomes because it is the only day of the year that they can move about. What happens then is in the hands of trick or treaters.

THE FOX AND THE CHICKENS
Foxes are always a worry for farmers who keep chickens. But when Farmer Jones and his wife discover that their baby daughter has actually been playing with one they are horrified. This however, is a very special fox as their other children explain.

HILARY, DICKY AND DOC
Hilary and Dicky are mice, and Doc likes to think he is; although he may well be a rat. They live in Mr. Klein's shop and help to keep all his clocks on time. But the town clock is running slow. Can the three mice put it right so that it chimes in the New Year exactly on the stroke of midnight?

CLAW CAMP FOR SOLDIER CRABS
The little crabs are on the beach waiting for Sergeant Grouch to arrive. He will teach them what they need to know so that they can be troopers in The Great Soldier Crab Army.

MELVIN THE EVER-SO-GRUMPY TROLL
Because he is uglier than the other trolls and always grumpy, nobody likes Melvin. One day, he leaves the mountain to go in search of a new place to live where he can find some real friends so that he can be happy for once in his life. And, lo and behold, he finds it!

THE BOWER BIRD BLUES
Ambrose bower bird doesn't know that girls love blue, and unless he can find lots of blue things to decorate his home before Hermione arrives, he will have lost the love of his life. All of his friends in the forest come to Ambrose's aid, and just in the nick of time.

THE PENGUIN PUSH RACE
The young penguins are just starting to learn about life in a world that is all white. All, that is, except for the wide-water channel which is very dangerous. They've been told not to go near it, but when some bigger penguins make fun of them, big-mouth Mitsy can't help but challenge them to a race. And the finish line is the wide-water channel!

MISTER MOONY
Before little Katy moved to the country, she had never had a puppy, nor had she seen the moon. To dispel her fears about the shiny face looking through her window, Katy's parents introduce her to Mister Moony who is only there to keep her safe. Katy believes this, and when the puppy goes missing, she asks Mister Moony to help find it.

PURPLE WONDERS
Morton and Skiddly are brothers and the best of friends. At least they were until Morton admits he has used special feed on his melons which has made them sweeter than Siddly's. Consequently, he sells more, and that makes Skiddly jealous. The man at the farmer's store, however, sells Skiddly some extra special seed to beat Morton at his own game; and that's when the problems really start.
