Caught in a Cyclone
An account of experiences during Cyclone Seroja

We have been through cyclones in the past, but weren't expecting to be hit by Seroja. We were visiting our son and his wife who lived in the Mid-West Australian town of Morowa, some 500kms north of where we lived - a tiring drive for us these days. Needless to say, we were glad to arrive; but our stay was destined to be longer than planned and pretty scary; all thanks to a cyclone lurking off the coast. According to the weather bureau it was supposed to head inland well north of us and not be much of a problem. Mother Nature, however, decided to change things.

The article is our account of what we and others experienced when Seroja swept straight through the town, taking off roofs and littering roads with trees and branches. The power went out, so too the Internet and mobile phone coverage. If damage to the outside of the property wasn't bad enough, there was no way to use any form of electronic banking facilities, or get fuel for the car. So we were stuck there...
