What Mobile Phones are Doing to Our Kids

What would we do without mobile phones? These handy communication devices have made life so much easier than it was in the past; but there is a downside, especially for our kids. Like many adults, they seem to be on them all the time. Communicating, maybe? Well, they do that, even text chatting to a friend who is sitting right next to them. They also use them to play video games, some no doubt in the classroom when they should be concentrating on the lesson. If that's not bad enough, they tend to trawl the social media sites, again for the purpose of communication; but this leaves them wide open for receiving disturbing and hateful messages from cyber bullies who are often complete strangers.

The recipients could, of course, ignore the comments, but all too often many take them to heart. The result can be a lowering of self-esteem, anxiety and even lead to suicidal thoughts. It can happen; it has happened. So, mobile phones aren't always the wonderful boon we imagined they ought to be, and they are doing harm to our kids. All responsible adults must take the matter very seriously before it's too late.
