Taking Care of Teeth
Sometimes the healthy way may not be the best way
"Have you washed behind your ears and brushed your teeth?" When I was a child I recall those words echoing down the hallway as I headed for the front door to leave for school. And often my answer was a loud: "No!" followed by a laugh as I ran off before Mum could catch me. An amusing anecdote maybe, but the consequences of this rebellious attitude, at least with respect to my teeth, came back to bite! Sometime later but still quite young I was taken to the dentist for 13 fillings and two extractions - not a happy lad by any means.
I never realised back then how important dental hygiene was. By the time I was navigating through my teens oral hygiene was also a consideration, not wishing to drive away friends with bad breath. So, brushing teeth properly was essential in my book, and I eventually came to the conclusion that too much sugar was no good. With respect to the former, I was told by my dentist that I scrubbed my teeth too vigorously destroyed the enamel, which was why they were turning the colour of old ivory. Over 80 now, I still have my own teeth, minus two or three. I guess I must have been doing something right. What about you?
