REVIEW of Money 57
Buyers Beware
you don't always get what you pay for
It should go without saying that not everyone is honest, and when it comes to purchasing items, particularly online, buyers should be very wary. If you can't actually see and touch whatever it is you might want to buy, it may not even exist. Sometimes the seller is miles away, maybe not in the same State or country - that's a loud warning to mistrust. Should you part with your hard earned cash in the hopes that the goods in question will be transported to you somehow, don't be surprised if they never arrive; and in these circumstances it is almost impossible to get your money back.
Buying second-hand can save you heaps, and there is plenty to choose from online; but bear in mind what you are seeing is a picture. With luck, you might actually receive it in the mail or by courier; or you could discover that what you do get is of poor quality and nothing like it appeared in the photo. Should this be the case, returning it for credit costs, and it might not be acceptable with the seller.
As for payment, this can be a minefield. Scammers are rife, and if you happen to reveal to them your bank details... Woah! Only go down that road if you trust the seller implicitly. And, wherever possible, use something like Pay Pal to make your purchase; then if it all goes pear-shaped you have less chance of being out of pocket.
